The Situation

The client is an Australian headquartered resource company producing zinc, copper, lead, gold and silver with mining operations, development projects and exploration fields through Australia, Asia and North America.  Due to its origins, the organisation inherited an extensive and disparate set of operations planning and execution systems across its various sites.

In order to underpin its operational improvement and growth strategies, the client wanted to address issues this situation presented by establishing common operational systems architecture as the foundation for a comprehensive systems improvement program. The first stage of the architecture development process is to deliver a standard Operations Applications Blueprint, which comprised four architectural areas:

1. Mine Technical Services

2. Operations Workforce Management

3. Operations Scheduling, Execution and Reporting 

4. Environmental Monitoring

Our Approach

Cherub was engaged to develop and facilitate an RFI process to source information from over 30 selected suppliers that had Commercial-Off-The-Shelf based solutions that could be employed by the client as an integral part of the Operations Applications Blueprint (OA Blueprint).  Cherub's role was to:

• Develop and maintain project plans and status reports

• Develop a high level Go To Market RFI document for each of the four architectural areas

• Develop evaluation criteria to short list respondents and products to the OA Blueprint

• Manage and support the due diligence process (presentations, referee checks, site visits)

• Support the evaluation process

• Work with the client technical team to scenario map supplier options for the OA Blueprint and to cost each scenario

• Support the development of a Steering Committee submission for final supplier and product recommendations to be included in the OA Blueprint.
